With great power comes great responsibility. Once you are the CTO of the #1 web company you have to expect that you're going to be held to different standards than J. Random Blogger. The fact that you consider it 'fairly insignificant' is p

Ok, just for mr. Brin then: "Services should be composable or sooner or later we'll get a competitor that gets this who will kill us." I hope that accurately summarizes the essential bits, if you disagree or can shorten it further feel free

Same here. Just set the background image to all white, touch any button and it will light up. Not too bright but usable in most cases. The extended battery life is what clinched it for me. The funniest thing is that for years I would be way

You can be pseudonymous to google but known to your friends, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. After all, google is just the transportation medium why should it have any knowledge on whose data it transports, as long as it re

Why would it have to be life changing in order to be useful? The trade-off could well be watching soaps vs re-doing your high school or university level math.

I think my point is that education should be as accessible as possible and that any barrier is too much. There will always be those that are left out inadvertently or because their numbers are not significant enough to be taken into account

In some places breach of fiduciary duty is a criminal offense. So you may very well end up in jail. I'm not sure there is adequate compensation for a risk like that. Being the 8th largest shareholder of MSFT might do the trick for some indi

iirc it was the XOR patent, here is one part of that story: http://xcssa.org/pipermail/xcssa/2005-February/002587.html I'm not sure if that was all there was to it and possibly there is room in there for a 'microsoft mole' somehow, but a

Sure, I get that. But that's why the bias can never be a (discrete) input, it is an emergent property of some unknown piece of matter, not something you set with a slider in steps of 1%. As the coin gets more biased you'll need to flip more

Editing a farewell message would be the most un-classy thing one could do. Authenticity is worth far more than any spell checked version in a case like this and I'm really happy that they didn't fall for that trap. Think about it, if there

If I set the slider to 50% then it still wants me to flip 3 times. At 50% one flip would do. There should be at least an exception for that situation, I can't imagine I'm being alone in testing the edge cases first.
