What kind of crazy stuff has been going on that would make older versions damage documents on an OS upgrade?

In 10.12.6 (and perhaps earlier) there's already a /usr/libexec/firmwarecheckers directory. It contains an "ethcheck" binary (with some odd permissions, "-rwx--x--x"... why allow other users to execut

This looks like damage control and is limited to a select few open source projects of theirs. Feel free to change your mind, but think twice about committing to depend on projects from a source that didn't seem to have a problem with t

It broke android studio's jdk selector and it broke android gradle for me. Also eclipse needed a hack in eclipse.ini to even start. Looks like the ecosystem isn't ready yet.

Android Studio 2.3 and the corresponding gradle versions embedded in android projects throw a hissy-fit on this java version. Android studio refuses to select the jdk9 directory (says "Please use JDK 8 or newer"), and gradlew quic

But the phone worked "as well as it used to" on iOS10 with support for 32bit apps. So why would it not work as well as that? I think what will happen is the user don't understand why their precious legacy app doesn't lau

Historically, this has only happened once on iOS, as far as I know. It'd be great if you were right.

What good is RAM for if not running the applications a user needs to run? If the user is not currently running a 32bit app, drop the libraries from RAM. That is such a non-argument. The amount of space and time needed to load and unload 32b

Nope, so this is going to be interesting to watch. Personally I was hoping that they would offer an optional download of 32bit support libraries to let iOS11 users run important existing legacy apps and access their documents, but they seem

I think these latest sets of wifi flaws are interesting if it turns out they are exploitable by merely being in radio range of an attacker even without joining a malicious network or requiring user interaction. That could quickly become a f

Highly unlikely, I don't think Apple has ever released multiple branches of updates for any device. The closest is perhaps iOS 6.1.6, a fix for the fatal "gotofail" SSL vulnerability, which was pushed out to devices stuck on

You would only lose the RAM and the disk space if the 32bit support is actually needed and installed. What’s better - having unused RAM and your app refusing to launch, or using RAM to run your important legacy app?

All the other transitions could be handled by virtualization and emulation, and the software and the corresponding data files could be copied between file systems and drives, so if you have built a workflow around a legacy app, you could st

That could easily be solved by offering 32bit support as an optional download, just like how 32bit windows10 prompts to install the 16bit ntvdm support libraries on first use. Or just like how iOS itself mounts a developer disk image provid

I didn’t say it was impossible, I was just argung that updating legacy apps is a lot more work than clicking a recompile button and uploading the result. The loser here is the end-user, who can’t access their files inside legacy apps or con

I think you have no experience with updating legacy iOS applications to modern SDKs. It is not just a matter of "recompile and push", it is: * Ensuring your code still works now that CGFloat and ints change size (can easily trip u
