The old rich folks in CT who don't want the NEC alignment don't care if it's in a tunnel (folks still came out to oppose the new alignment near Old Lyme even when the proposal changed to allow for a tunnel so they didn't

"They"ing people when you don't know their pronouns is actually pretty standard among the queerdoes I know (and count myself among)

Even in places where it makes all the sense in the world, we don't have quality rail. It's more expensive and slower to take the train than to drive from Boston to NYC, and that's a perfect length of trip for rail. The whole

I'm aware... while the process for urination (without a penis) or defecation (with any equipment) does require getting about 5/8ths out of your 1-piece moto leathers, this really only adds about 10 seconds and the desire for a goo

They unzip down the front. Yes, if you lack a penis you'd have to get your arms and butt out to urinate, but that's hardly the same level of challenge as having to end a dive, surface, undo all your seals, and then get your arms

I'm a little confused by this - I've ridden motorcycles for a decade now and typically one simply stops, dismounts, and orients oneself looking downwind.

Hm. I don't think this is an actual thing but perhaps an art project? Would be interested to be proven wrong. Edit: I think they made a hand like thing and are very very deeply stretching to generate interest and investment in the idea

I rolled my own solution to this using a Boston Dynamics Spot (2nd gen). With the structured light scanner, YOLO v5 for classification, and a custom IK solver (BD's is too hard for me), I can just lay back like a baby once I'm fin

Unless there's a better way to do it, I this shows a need for better structures for governance and auditing of review boards... Information and science care not for our human folly, it's up to us to seek and execute them properly.

This seems like an issue of administration rather than an issue with the idea of a double-blind review. If you conduct a review that isn't properly blinded, and doesn't have an observable effect, can it really be called a double b

Does that scale neatly with salary? I would expect it not to, with things like benefits and other costs being relatively fixed regardless of salary

If the goal is "put man on Mars" then that's what you gotta do. It's harder to make the argument that you need to do that in the service of science, or even offworld colonies, given the unsuitability and impracticality o

Especially in these times I think it's important to support any software that is simply doing a good job for a reasonable fee . Rarer and rarer unfortunately.

I synced using Google Drive on the desktop, and a third party app to pull and sync a local directory on my phone for mobile. Took a little bit of setup but it worked mostly fine. Now I run the paid sync subscription, and the main difference

I run my life through Obsidian checklists. Sync is worth it for me and I bought a gift subscription for my partner as well.

I do this already. I use FF on Android and the desktop and the Obsidian Clipper works phenomenally for this.

I don't see the issue here. Nobody expects candidates to build actual product during the interview. Having a (targeted, scope and time-limited) design discussion or giving your candidate some made-up context around an engineering cycle

Really? How short are your interviews, and how big are these Real Problems such that you can't get a sense of how your candidate would start to tackle them?

You can just buy SnPb solder today, probably with better fluxes than whatever they were using in the 80s. Non-Pb solders also work fine for almost everything (I keep a little bit of SnPb around but do most of my work in lead-free), the big

I learned how to program from a series of adventure books in which the protagonist (a reader insert) pulled out his computer and solved the problem with a few dozen lines of BASIC! Angry natives in the jungle? No problem. Those books were f

There's a lot of feel involved with tools. A bandsaw or a drill or a bridgeport gives you a ton of feedback. Something as simple as torquing a fastener will tell you tons about the alignment of the fastener, the surface roughness, thre

Here in the northeast us i know of at least one org that actually does the on-the-ground research to ride and take notes on many sections of road. There's no good way to get a read on conditions otherwise.
