I don't think there's such thing as neurotypical.
"Neurotypical" means "person who haven't got enough attention to be examined nor a name for their specific neural features". Because everyone got some.
- badpenny 11y agoIs that really what it means or did you just decide that's what it means?
- AndrewDucker 11y agoNeurotypical seems to mean a mixture of "Near the centre of the bell curve, for all attributes" and "Is able to mentally cope with the world without unusually large quantities of external support".
- badpenny 11y agoOr, in short, somebody who doesn't have Asperger's.
- AndrewDucker 11y agoOr Schizophrenia. Or ADHD. Or any one of a massive host of things that can affect the brain and make it harder to cope.
- badpenny 11y agoI thought this was a discussion about Asperger's, not every single mental disorder under the sun.
- guard-of-terra 11y agoNot many people are neat the centre of the bell curve for ALL attributes (statistically, since attributes are aplenty) and those who are become a small and interesting subset on their own.
- pbhjpbhj 11y agoIt strikes me - anecdotally - that often those who are most well-adjusted have the most support [friendship groups, family] already and those that are least well-adjusted lack these things. I'm sure there's a feedback loop (or two) and that causality is bi-directional.
