“Superfish is currently transitioning our focus”
- quchen 11y agoI'm assuming this means the thing with Lenovo didn't go that well, or is it a different company?
- 0942v8653 11y agoI can't help but think it's funny that they're using React for a page like this, with scripts like 'wixAppsBuilder.min.js', 'wixAppsClassics.min.js' and 14 requests to frog.wix.com (whatever that is). So apparently they built this (extremely simple!) page with... Wix Website Builder?
- skrebbel 11y agoSo?
- 0942v8653 11y agoYou'd think that since Superfish was a web malware company, that intercepted web pages and added content to them, they would be competent enough to write a ten-line site without using a heavy, bloated website builder that makes 28 requests, most of them JavaScript. IIRC Wix was, until very recently, a Flash website builder.
- jrallison 11y agoSometimes, just maybe, the priority isn't to build something from scratch (however simple), but rather press a few buttons and move onto something more important.
- 13 11y agoWeb 3.0 is pretty much that. Load 10MB of JavaScript libraries sequentially, then every element on the page needs a new loader, 30 HTTP requests, and a web socket.
- MichaelGG 11y agoAnd that's after a 10-minute build process using some node-thing, which, just to minimize and spit out static assets, needs to pull in 14,000 files of dependencies.
- tgbrter 11y agoIs modern web really that bad, and are those the reasons that just visiting some of the popular websites overwhelms my brand new cpu?
- 13 11y agoSlightly exaggerated, but that sort of thing absolutely happens.
- MichaelGG 11y agoThe 14,000 files is an actual measurement of the node_modules folder for the build of a static site I've seen. npm is inane.
- fapjacks 11y agoStraw man. This is actually an EBKAC. Obviously, because I can do the same asinine thing in any language offering the ability to pull in dependencies.
- inglor 11y agoYeah, Wix has been transitioning all their Angular code to React. You're blaming superfish for using a website builder for a trivial page rather than actually care about hosting + coding + etc?
- raverbashing 11y agoWhat happened to a plain HTTP page? (with all js you want, of course)
- mikkom 11y agoHTML page you mean? HTTP is a protocol.
- raverbashing 11y agoCorrect
- jmkni 11y agoTurn off Javascript and you literally get an empty page. Impressively shit!
- imglorp 11y agoGood riddance?
- jcpham 11y agodoublespace between "transitioning" and "our" that is visually unappealing
