there's plenty of other good advice here, but unless you're turning down 3-4 offers for every job you do accept, you're not charging enough money. this is true even when you're not working.
wrapping your head around this and going without a paycheck is tough. most people aren't tough enough to deal with it, including you, until now. this is why agencies can charge 200% markup on your estimate AND screw you for 40% on the backend.
- ilaksh 12y agoAre they "not tough enough" or not rich enough? If you don't have much saved, are running out of food and have a kid and your rent is due, turning down a job because it doesn't pay well means your kid goes hungry and your wife divorces you.
- beachstartup 12y agoyeah, sure, that's true. so what? i mean literally, so what? do you want to make the money, or not? nobody is going to hand it to you. you have to go out and find it. you're competing with people with no kids, no debt, no spouse, and plenty of savings. tough cookies. if you don't want to risk it, then don't. going on your own is not for people who sit around all day and think of reasons why they can't do something.
