"Four cores ought to be enough for anybody!"
- rpwverheij 12y agomy thought exactly. Unless we see some big breakthrough in Ghz for single cores, more cores will come, and be properly used, in time.
- willvarfar 12y ago> more cores will come, and be properly used This is usually not possible; see Amdahl's law :(
- marcosdumay 12y agoAmdahl's law is almost useless on practice. If a resource come, people will consume it. If they can't make their code run faster, they'll use it to run more code at the same time. Yet, all that seems to miss Linus point.
- Dewie 12y agoMaybe he means more like "four cores is as good as it gets" (for certain domains). We can always want things to get harder, faster, stronger, but delivering on that is another matter.
