Let's do the math. If I didn't screw it up (and I probably did), an 8k iphone 6 would be around 1600 dpi.

- copperx 12y agoImagine being able to use a physical magnifier to see more information on the screen. Wouldn't that be great? at least for a curious child?
- masklinn 12y agoI'd think a curious child with a magnifier would be more interested in seing what the display is made of.
- IvyMike 12y agoI'm imagining the computer consoles in Brazil. https://imgur.com/pFUTYH2 https://imgur.com/pFUTYH2
- Retra 12y agoIt would also increase the effective color count, even if it didn't help resolution.
- keeganpoppen 12y agoso, carrying that to its logical conclusion, does that mean that at some point we will create displays w/ such a high resolution that they will, in some sense, be creating a "universe" which is indistinguishable from that which they are displaying? or, i guess that would mean the display essentially is what it is displaying. is that even possible in our universe, or would that be akin to creating energy / matter from nothingness? clearly the display would blink "let there be light"* at startup. * http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html
- orbitur 12y agoLike microfiche?
- JetSpiegel 12y agoIt's not like a smarthphone has that much extra processor and battery to waste.
- tim333 12y agoI kind of had that effect at a trade show a while ago where they had huge demo displays like 12 foot /6000 pixels across and I couldn't see all the detail at a usual viewing distance but could make it out in small areas by wandering up close. It was kinda cool. I'm not sure it would have that much value in a domestic setting but in something like a museum / gallery could be good.
