- copperx 12y agoIs Triclosan really a problem if I wash my mouth with distilled water? As I understand it, Triclosan reacts with chloride.
- schrodingersCat 12y agoYes, it really is a problem. And using distilled water won't help as chloride ions are naturally in saliva (http://books.google.com/books?id=LKy0weDEFp8C&pg=PA601&lpg=PA601&dq=saliva+chloride+ion+concentration&source=bl&ots=4_ofFA4K7K&sig=fB_8fANm0q-ZwuJJ3xV_OqTmbZc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=6xnpU_mWDbG-sQTgo4DgBA&ved=0CCwQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=saliva%20chloride%20ion%20concentration&f=false http://books.google.com/books?id=LKy0weDEFp8C&pg=PA601&lpg=P...).
- freehunter 12y agoWhat is it about triclosan that earns your purchase? Genuine question.
- qohen 12y ago[Note: I'm not the guy you're asking and this isn't meant to be any kind of advice -- dental or otherwise] My dentist told me that Colgate Total was better at killing plaque-creating bacteria due to its use of Triclosan. I just found a FAQ from Colgate about the use of Triclosan in Colgate Total [1] -- here's a short excerpt: Colgate Total® toothpaste is uniquely formulated with 0.3% of the antibacterial ingredient triclosan to fight harmful plaque germs, which are the cause of most common dental problems. Colgate Total® is clinically proven to work better than other toothpastes to reduce these germs that can cause the gum disease gingivitis.
