Monitors are getting large enough for many to be productive using just one.
A single monitor can also help one be more productive by not having always-on distractions in your periphery. Putting the inbox away is a very effective way to be productive. (There was an article about this on Slate but I can't seem to find it.)
- astrodust 12y agoI can get by on a 27" display (full-resolution, not upscaled 1080p) alone, but for certain tasks having a second screen is almost imperative. If you're doing development and need to see the output window, some logging, and are watching your performance monitoring application, you'll run out of real estate in a hurry.
- seanmcdirmid 12y agoA large curved screen with a decent tiling window manager would solve the problem of real estate much better.
- the_ancient 12y agoI am probably in my inbox less than 1 hour a day... I hate email and avoid it as much as possible so that is not a source of distraction for me. Today I have 2 1080p 22in monitors, 1 1900x1200 27in monitor, and 1 1440x900 19in monitor the 19in monitor i use to display various monitoring tools and automation outputs. the 27in is my primary work area one of the 22in I use for Media (spotify) and reference/docs so I can reference and/or update documentation while I work on a project The 2nd 22in is simple overflow, a post can drag things when needed. It is used less often i could probably get by with out it but it is nice to have when i need it
