You gotta think global. Han Chinese make up almost 20% of the world's population. Calling us the 'minorities' seems pretty laughable.

- seanmcdirmid 12y agoWell, disadvantaged minorities also exist in China; e.g. Uighurs in Guangzhou.
- yen223 12y agoI more surprised at the fact that people are touting the high number of Asians at Google as some sort of success story about us Asians and our culture. Google hires people from around the world, not just the US. I'm more inclined to believe that there are high number of Asians simply because there are more Asians in the world, period.
- seanmcdirmid 12y agoWell, I know plenty of poor Chinese...but then again I live in China. From that perspective, this discussion is all very American biased anyways.
- analyst74 12y agoI can't say the case for Uighurs, but in general minorities in China have either blended in, or taking minor advantages in some areas. i.e. minorities get a boost of score in university entry test; they are also not bound by one-child policy.
- seanmcdirmid 12y agoThe races that are obviously not Han (so the western side of the country) don't blend and have many problems. We are going through a bout of terrorism right now for this reason (coupled with Han paternalism, which makes the problems worse). The races in the east have mostly inter-married and integrated with Han culture, though there are still some tensions (the largest Zhuang minority has been very rebellious up until the 20th century).
- trustfundbaby 12y agoThey're a minority in the US, just like Americans would probably be a minority in China. make sense?
