I'd like to point out that the developer of this application is 17 years old. He's a student at the school I work at and a fantastic programmer.
I don't know whether he'd be annoyed at me for mentioning this or not, but given some of the negativity in the comments, I think it's worth noting. I can't imagine the type of applications he'll be developing in a few years time.
- davbryn 12y agoThe comments have been pretty negative, but I think they are mainly due to the fact that this project (whilst being cool) isn't really that useful. The fact that the developer is 17 is cool: maybe you could suggest that it could be turned into a code review/ code merging tool? That might suit the device a little better (maybe it could airplay the code and be used as a presentation tool?) Please take on board that people are negative about the idea, as opposed to the implementation.
- grinich 12y agoIs he looking for a summer job? ;)
- scott_karana 12y agoHoly crap. I know plenty of 20-somethings who haven't accomplished anything close to this.
- jason_slack 12y agoI know plenty of 30-40 somethings that call themselves programmers that wouldn't know how to even prototype this.
- pikachu_is_cool 12y agoSo we should circlejerk over this just because he's 17? I know a lot more good developers that are even younger [1]. He should be getting as much critisicism as anyone else. You need criticism to get better. Now for the criticism.... I sometimes use the iPad as a development environment, and this is approaching it in the complete wrong way. If you even want to think about developing on-device, then you have to jailbreak. That isn't even like, a question. Then all you need to do is get theos [2]. You don't even need a mac build server. The iPad compiles the code. And you can run it without a developer's license. It's basically $100 license + internet connection + an mac server to build on + ths app's price vs. completely 100% free (+ your choice of development environment instead of being locked into a proprietary GUI text editor). That's why this isn't good. - enen 12y agoThanks, I feel completely useless now. Wouldn't even know where to start with something like this.
