Just for developers: Something that allowed you to change the IP your request resolves to with a modified URL instead of editing the hosts file, like this: 127.0.0.1::http://mysite.com/ http://mysite.com/
Benefits: Not as much work, not as permanent, you can use multiple at once, you can easily see where you are connecting.
I think this is something web developers would pay a few bucks for. I know I would.

- catshirt 13y agois virtualhostx [0] what you want? personally i ditched it many years ago in favor of editing the hosts file. it really doesn't get easier than that. not sure i'm on the right track though because the benefits you list seem contrived. "not as permanent"? "not as much work"? we're talking about editing a single line in a short file. [0] http://clickontyler.com/virtualhostx/ http://clickontyler.com/virtualhostx/

- tothrowaway 13y agonip.io and xip.io can do this: mysite.com.127.0.0.1.nip.io mysite.com.127.0.0.1.xip.io Your server must route the request to the appropriate vhost though (e.g. ServerAlias mysite.com.*.xip.io).
