Who ever said those people aren't going to get the product? Why do you think the product will get swallowed up?
> "Oculus will continue operating independently within Facebook" --Mark Zuckerberg
- smacktoward 13y agoYes, just as every CEO of every big company that has just acquired a smaller company has ever said, back unto the dawning of the world. Nothing is ever going to change, until suddenly it all does.

- mcphage 13y agoThat is a seriously depressing tumblr.
- magic_haze 13y agoSurprising how many companies Yahoo has been gobbling up... and shutting down. What exactly _are_ they doing with all the new hires?
- eloisant 13y agoEven when they don't shut them down, they can often turn gold into shit. See Delicious, Flickr (before Melissa Mayer) and so on... Google actually does a better when they decide to keep the product (Android, Blogger, Google Docs...), but it's impossible to know whether they're buying the product or the team until they either integrate the product or shut it down.
- joelrunyon 13y agoDisney picked up pixar and didn't screw it up (too) much.
- nitrogen 13y agoI've wondered whether Pixar would have ventured into making more grown-up movies if they hadn't been bought by Disney (not that I don't enjoy their current stuff, even as an adult).
- thedudemabry 13y agoA very good point. Pixar is notably a huge fan of Ghibli studios, which has ventured into less child-friendly fare in the past. But they have always been a big proponent of universal stories, stories which do not demean children nor sacrifice their integrity to subtextually cater to adults. I would bet that they would be making the same movies that they are now, but Disney would not have released Frozen (as a childless 20-something duder, I was absolutely ecstatic watching that old-style Disney musical.)
- Piromancer 13y agoCars 2.
- frandroid 13y agoYeah but Pixar was already a mature business minting money by that point, with a mature business model, which is very similar to Disney's: Make animation. Release to the big screen. Profit. No need to tinker. It's not like when you buy a startup that's bleeding money with 50 engineers that you could add to your existing products.
- joelrunyon 13y agoYeah - but the parent company didn't make a distinction about startups - just big evil companies acquiring smaller ones.

- Kiro 13y agoGive me one example where that actually has happened.
