Haven't I read about this before?
Wednesday 13 November 2013 01.58 AEST
Yes.
- chris_wot 13y agoIt is still interesting.
- DanBC 13y agoIt is still interesting. It has been discussed before on HN and people may want to read some of the previous comments. (I'd link but HN's mobile search is unusably bad[1]. HN has a lot of submitted articles. People really should stop submitting fluff and people need to stop upvoting fluff, because it means the interestin stuff gets missed. I am surprised that malware can make its way into orbit. Is there a market is reducing weight of consumer electronic items for astronauts? Because each gram costs $X so maybe the people paying for the fuel might be interested. Has there been any kind of realistic depecition of malware in orbit? The terrible terrible use of a laptop to infect the alien mothership in Independence Day doesn't count.
- baddox 13y agoIt is, and Hacker News has long outgrown its title.
- taspeotis 13y agoThen please post it with (2013) in the title so I know it's old and don't open the article thinking it's about new malware on the new Linux laptops.
- chris_wot 13y agoNovember 2013 really wasn't all that long ago. If a mod wants to do so, not an issue.
- bananas 13y agoI haven't because I wasn't here then... So yes it is interesting to me.
- stinos 13y agoNot too fast with that logic, else we can just start reposting everything from any amount of time ago :P OT unbelievable that in such an environment as a space station there is no standard protocol that denies network access to 'alien' machines that have not been properly checked before. Like an infected XP laptop. Or actually any machine wit hany OS for that matter.
- gus_massa 13y agoI can't find the previous discussion, so technically this is not a repost. https://hn.algolia.com/?q=iss+virus#!/story/forever/0/iss%20virus https://hn.algolia.com/?q=iss+virus#!/story/forever/0/iss%20... https://hn.algolia.com/?q=iss+virus#!/story/forever/prefix/0/iss%20linux https://hn.algolia.com/?q=iss+virus#!/story/forever/prefix/0... For me, the main problem is that this article is about a report of a 2008 infection. So the real new is old, and it was througfully discussed.
