Not everyone needs to be a systems programmer, but everyone that need a computer for their work would probably benefit in knowing how to automating whatever task they do on an every day basis. Perhaps I do believe that everyone needs to be a programmer; just that the domains in which we apply programming methodology also should be widened. Programming, taken from its particular domain is a very generic skill applicable to many fields.
