I do that, and I live in Britain, which I believe is a lot better-off than Hungary. I don't know anyone who doesn't!
- heidar 13y agoWhy do you think it is a lot better off than Hungary? There's not a very big difference between them in terms of human development.
- earnubs 13y agoI think he's being very generous to the author by not laughing out loud at the suggestion that hang drying clothes is a measure of progress.
- hispanic 13y agoI think it'd represent a great deal of progress - in terms of our simplistic way of thinking that equates convenience and the harnessing of fossil fuels to human advancement. It requires a lot of destructive practices to manufacture, operate, and dispose of clothes dryers. That's more enlightened than using a 100% sustainable clothesline and a breeze?
- swombat 13y agoOne advantage of hang-drying is it's less destructive to fabrics... I wash at 30 degrees on a 1-hour cycle, and hang dry... my clothes seem to pretty much last forever. Except for trousers, which eventually get a hole in the crotch. Fucking trousers...
- joubert 13y agoExcept for trousers, which eventually get a hole in the crotch. Fucking trousers... A thousand thanks for posting this. I thought I had some physical deformity because my last two (very-often-worn) jeans wore through in the crotch in less than a year. (Of course that made other aspects of my life more convenient). Good to know I'm not the only one.
- arethuza 13y ago"better off" == "has more money" UK GDP per capita is about 75% higher than Hungary. I'm in the UK as well, we also hang dry our clothes in a laundry room - using a dryer is only for emergencies!
- JonnieCache 13y ago>"better off" == "has more money" Just to be extra clear, this isn't a value judgement, it's literally a linguistic equation. "better off" is a british euphemism employed to avoid gauche phrases like "earns more than."
- TheAnimus 13y ago>using a dryer is only for emergencies! Or towels. Put a towel in for 10 min, then let hang dry, next time you use it you will be in fluffy heaven. Also avoid any fabric softener, they decrease the efficiency of towels. Whilst on this important topic, whilst a good egyption cotton is best, plenty of the cheaper ones we get marketed in the UK as egyptian cotton are not well made. Trust your fingers and give them all a good rub in the shop before buying.
- arethuza 13y agoActually, I occasionally use our dryer to take creases out of shirts - I spray them with some water and then pop them in the dryer while I shave and have a shower.
- gadders 13y agoI would stake money on the fact that more Hungarians migrate to the UK than British people migrating to Hungary.
- nadam 13y agoThat's true. (I am a Hungarian living in Hungary). Although migration is not the best deal in my opinion. The best deal is to work remotely for clients/employer in Western Europe, as living/housing is cheaper in Hungary. Now I do that (although I still work cheaper than an 'equivalent' Western-European developer, which I plan to change slowly:))
- seanmcdirmid 13y agoEver since I moved to China...what's a drier?
- vidarh 13y agoI couldn't live without a drier.... We have a garden, but I haven't set foot out there for 9+ months.
