I built the blog using jekyll, a static site generator. (http://jekyllrb.com/ http://jekyllrb.com/) Still working on improving it but it's allowed me to dynamically generate tag and category pages as well as a few other neat things. That and it's seriously lightweight.

  If it's any consolation, you wouldn't have to write any Ruby code with Jekyll. You'd only write HTML templates, Markdown/Textile, and a sprinkle of YAML.
