Ask HN: Email services
What do you guys use to send and recieve emails from "@company.com"?
Also, is Google Apps a good choice for individuals rather than companies?
- plant42 14y agoGoogle Apps for Business is a good choice for individuals. I use it for several accounts and it works lovely. However, they recently stopped accepting free sign-ups and is now a paid service. $5/user/month won't break the bank.
- michaelkscott 14y agoSince you're an individual do you only pay $5/mo as 1 user? Also, do you have multiple accounts as one user or how exactly are you setting that up?
- plant42 14y agoI signed up before the change to being a paid service, so am not paying unless I go over the 10 account limit. Now its $5 per account. An account being in Googles own words: "We consider a user to be the same as the number of distinct email inboxes you need. One user can have multiple email addresses, and a domain can have multiple aliases – these are included in the price for each user." Check out all the info you need at: http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/pricing.html http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/pricing.html
- dangrossman 14y agoRackspace Email. It's $2/mailbox/month, with a 100% uptime SLA, 24/7/365 phone/email/chat support, and automatic backups. http://www.rackspace.com/apps/email_hosting/rackspace_email/ http://www.rackspace.com/apps/email_hosting/rackspace_email/ If you're not attached to the Gmail interface (I prefer desktop/mobile clients), Rackspace has the best e-mail hosting offering I know of. Google's customer support record doesn't even put them in the running if e-mail is important to your business.
- shankar1221989 14y agoYou should check out Zoho's mail service - free upto three users..https://www.zoho.com/mail/ https://www.zoho.com/mail/
- dholowiski 14y agoI used to use Google Apps standard edition (the free one). Still do because I'm 'grandfathered in'. If I had to pay, I'd probably goo with Office 365.
- mike-cardwell 14y agoMail read/write: Debian + Thunderbird Mail send/receive: Centos + Cyrus + Exim
- whichdan 14y agoI use FastMail for my personal mail and Google Apps for business -- but that's only because I stare at FastMail all day. I'd highly recommend a FastMail business account for anyone looking for an interface comparable to GMail.
- skram 14y agoI use FastMail for my personal domain name and would recommend it for personal or business use. They continue to improve the UX and post occasional techie blog posts. I've been happy with them for many years.
