I... don't know how I feel about this. I mean, the concept, sure, good idea. Is it reliable? Perhaps. But... I get a "buy merch" popup the moment I open the page, and there seems to be a pro option for what seems to be a very much LLM-aided app? ...IDK, rubs off a bit wrong IMO. Just my personal opinion.
- bwnkl 11d agoI like the idea of this type of merch that normalizes anti big tech sentiment. But I personally would also opt for something more dramatic, possibly involving a guillotine...on the t shirt I mean
- vitorfblima 11d agoExcept any "solution" that involves AI is actually a win for big tech.
- UpsideDownRide 11d agoIs that true if we move to local models?
- someonebaggy 11d agoYes, big tech controls them. Chinese ones will be trained to say certain things about Uyghurs and Taiwan, American ones about communism and Palestine.
- kdjdkcneixj 11d agoDoesn’t even have to involve AI. Any tech solution is a win for big tech. Simple as that. We’re way past the point of no return now.
- rob74 11d ago...except if it's certified organic open source?
- idjcjdjdjskdj 11d agoEspecially if it’s certified “organic” open source. To big tech open source is free labour. It’s their game at this point, unfortunately. We hold very little say in how things go.
- BubbleRings 11d agoThe following is 100% vibe coded by me, (except for the algorithm that actually makes the music recommendations, which is about 5 lines of code I wrote 30 years ago.) I created it in two months using Claude Code. It would have taken me three years without it. I would have never done it. What about this free service is a win for big tech?: https://SimilaritiesEngine.com https://SimilaritiesEngine.com
- joenot443 11d agoI think that'd be a pretty weird thing to wear, personally.
- GaryBluto 11d agoSocial media has tuned people to be unable to think in non-hyperbolic ways. To these constantly wound-up people, every problem, no matter how big or small, can only be solved by brutal violence and savagery.
- ofjcihen 11d agoHonestly it sounds like I’m not inviting either of you to a party.
- mschuster91 11d ago> To these constantly wound-up people, every problem, no matter how big or small, can only be solved by brutal violence and savagery. well, the idea of democracy was to offer a viable path for people's discontent to be heard and remediated. Unfortunately in most Western countries, dysfunctionality and corporatism have taken it over, and that is why you're seeing authoritarians on the rise across the world. They paint democracy and "legacy" figures as the scapegoat and themselves (plus handing them allllllll the power) as the only solution - just look at Milei and the chainsaw.
- jawilson2 11d ago“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” -Thomas Jefferson I personally think the tree of liberty is probably getting pretty thirsty.
- RobotToaster 11d ago"god forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion" Thomas Jefferson

- rob74 11d agoAre you alluding to this t-shirt: https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th/id/OIP.WxWdam38N7Uxmwqa5dFTRQHaJt?r=0&rs=1&pid=ImgDetMain&o=7&rm=3 https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th/id/OIP.WxWdam38N7Uxmwqa5dFTRQHaJ... ? ...which refers to the song https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Making_Plans_for_Nigel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Making_Plans_for_Nigel; the most well-known person called Nigel in the UK currently being https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Farage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Farage .
- hallway_monitor 11d agoThe nearby glasses app linked in this thread seems to be a lovingly hand coded tool to detect Meta glasses.
- brettgo1 11d agoAre you saying you don't want to show off a "Zuck Off" bucket cap?
- aogaili 11d agoso what if it is "very much LLM-aided app"? We are going to have the organic label soon on apps with this mindset..AI assisted development is evolving by the day and at the rate most apps will be built that way..
- n4r9 11d agoI'd love a label like that which tells me when an app has had thought put into it
- aogaili 11d agoYou can put a lot of thoughts while using LLMs. You are equating manual coding with more thinking, which has proven to be not the case given that it is mostly automated.
- n4r9 11d agoIt's possible to code thoughtfully with LLMs, but the process strongly encourages superficial signing-off on its activities.
- aogaili 11d agoIt did make it easier to generate thoughtless apps, I agree. But this process is new, and not every AI assisted app is thoughtless. In fact, I'd argue that if a person put more thoughts and amplify their abilities with AI assisted coding, then the total sum of mental labour exceed that of any manually coded app by huge margins. I'm not sure about this particular app, haven't looked into it. But I was merely commenting about the mindset of the parent comment.
- justacrow 11d agoIf the developer can't be bothered to not make it look vibecoded I assume there's a minimal amount of thought and effort put into it. And in that case I'm not going to bother using it.
- josh_carterPDX 11d agoIf it works the way it says it does, I'd be happy to buy merch as a way to support the team behind this!
