- Scaled 13d agoOpen source SyncThing
- simongray 13d agoSelf-hosted Seafile + Tailscale works great for me.
- NietTim 13d agoIf you only have ios and mac clients why not icloud?
- LeoPanthera 13d agoiCloud Drive is the obvious choice.
- haunter 13d agoLast I've tried iCloud Drive is not preserving file attributes especially if you want to use it cross OS between Mac and Windows. Dropbox does.
- fg137 13d agoLast time I checked, there was no file history, which basically meant it's useless to me.
- prodigycorp 13d agoiCloud Drive does not allow you to recover files if you put them into the trash and empty it by accident. I learned this the hardest of ways.
- LeoPanthera 13d agoThat seems... reasonable? You have to trash the files and empty the trash before you lose them. Isn't that what the trash is for?
- prodigycorp 12d agoIssue is I accidentally used cmd+delete which deletes items immediately. And I’m so used to how Dropbox does it that it wasn’t my assumption. Accidentally lost a bunch of data that way, figured I’d spread the word.
- ascorbic 13d agoI heard you can already build such a system yourself quite trivially by getting an FTP account, mounting it locally with curlftpfs, and then using SVN or CVS on the mounted filesystem
- microtonal 13d agoBrilliant :). Since this is currently going to woosh for younger visitors: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9224 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9224
- simonebrunozzi 12d agoGreat! I thought it was about this, and you saved me the time to look for the exact comment. Wow, 19 years ago... Time really flies.

- NordStreamYacht 13d agoUse maestral.app on Linux and macOS. Also bypasses the free Dropbox account's limitations on 3 devices.
- shaunpud 13d agoFilen
- swat535 13d agoPCloud is another one I like. Been using it for a few years and am happy with it.
- onel 13d agoSelf-host. NextCloud on a moose instance https://mooseos.com/store/nextcloud https://mooseos.com/store/nextcloud 1 click install, daily backups, no need to manage anything
- rjh29 13d agoDropbox is 2TB for the same price as your 40GB. Cool idea though.
- onel 13d agoYeah, definitely not 1-to-1 comparison as moose has a VM underneath and you can run pretty much anything
- throwaway270925 13d ago9€/m for 40GB? Yeah no, thats a terrible suggestion! Just get yourself a Hetzner Storage Share for 4.29€/m with nextcloud managed for you and 1TB! https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/ https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/
- onel 13d agoThat is a great offer if you're only looking for a nextcloud backup. If you also need an immich instance and some jellyfin, you need another machine. A single purpose service is always more efficient then a more generilized one
