Good news. This world needs more cooperation and friendship.
- nephihaha 18d agoIt's not about friendship but money.
- wood_spirit 18d agoThere is a friendly trusting common values part to this too.
- cisc 18d agoIt's more about predictability. America's become erratic and untrustworthy. America's made a deliberate choice make its reputation worse.
- usewik 18d agoEh, on a long enough timeline we have seen this and been there before. US is the beacon of democracy and the free world until it is not, and then until it again is. Depending on who is speaking and about whom and when. Most of these attention grabbing statements by politicians are usually about scoring political points at home. The only thing worthy of judgement are hard facts, and excruciating details, which are yet to materialize on this topic.
- arethuza 18d ago"US is the beacon of democracy" 40 years ago I probably would have agreed with this statement - these days, not at all.
- usewik 18d agoThis was a kind of example, and not really the point of my comment. Though to illustrate further, there are many examples one might find of US acting undemocratically even 40 years ago. So, politicians will talk, governments will be in power, and the observers will discuss. My invitation was simply to discuss known facts not political rhetoric. And main facts are largely absent and unknown.
- baxtr 18d agoFriendship is about values?
- frereubu 18d agoWhy not both?
- the_gipsy 18d agoThe true treasure is the friendship we made along the way.
- drstewart 18d agoDefine what "friendship" means here and how that differs from "economic or political interests", please?
- layer8 18d agoIt means shared values and a willingness to hold long-term commitments.

- dvrp 18d agoYou may not be interested in politics, but politics is interested in you!
- dudul 18d agoNations don't have friends, they have interests.
- Eupolemos 18d agoDemocratic populations have feelings towards each other, including friendship. There are plenty of nations I feel my nation has friendships with - if they were bullied, we'd stand up for them on pure reaction. Not everything is interests. People are people.
- sajithdilshan 18d agoThis is such a dumb take. Like 80 years ago the so-called Europeans were killing each other. 35 years ago there were 2 German nations that had animosity towards each other. This is why teaching history is important in schools so people don’t live in imaginary land
- dudul 18d agoThanks for the good laugh. Interesting that you didn't feel the need to say what your "nation" is, or their nation BFFs. It would have allowed us to dig into real data, but no, let's just use feelz instead :) People are people, and nation states are nation states. These are different entities.
- orf 17d agoIf we say that nations can have enemies then it stands to reason that we can also say that they have friends. You can of course be needlessly reductive and say that friendship is just two temporarily, mutually aligned self-interested parties, but… yeah. That’s pretty verbose. And not even correct.
- xethos 18d agoI'm not sure what you would call it, but the Whiskey War sure reads like a running gag between two friends to me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky_War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky_War
