Are AI companies trying to poison the search index?
Like Boris Johnson did when he had fun times with a model on the campaign bus, then did a bizarre interview when he claimed he made model buses!

- totetsu 18d agoI heard this is a common tactic in news forum discussions too. When you don't want people talking about the substance of the post, then you mention something like how the site is hosted on wix which supports the IDF, and derail the conversation.
- benhurmarcel 18d agoIt doesn't work that much on sites which organize comments in a tree, like HN or Reddit. You can just fold that part of the thread.
- esperent 19d agoDamn, did news articles ~7 years ago really just consist of a series of embedded tweets? It feels familiar but also kind of jarring.
- Henchman21 19d agoYes, and I recall at the time being exasperated by it -- "Twitter is NOT NEWS it is children yelling across the playground at each other!"
- wodenokoto 18d agoThey still do, to the best of my knowledge, although they have started incorporation reddit discussion too.
- esperent 18d agoNot on the Guardian I'm fairly sure, or any other "serious" newspaper I read.
- hamdingers 19d agoOr Disney releasing a movie called "Frozen" so that web searches for "Disney Frozen" stopped returning macabre rumors about Walt Disney's possible posthumous cryogenic preservation.
- Isamu 19d agoAh, so that’s why they released one of their most successful blockbusters, it was all an elaborate plot to bury the well known and long debunked story of the frozen Walt Disney.
- hamdingers 19d agoWell it wouldn't have been as effective as a box office bomb.
- ProllyInfamous 19d agoWait until you learn about the namesake for "Dubai chocolate" [NSFW]
- dylan604 19d agoThere are many many much more crazier ideas floating around. This one, even if made up, is funny and not harmful to anything. I'll allow it.
- danvayn 19d agoTrue, zootopia 2 agartha conspiracies exist.
- simlevesque 19d agoThe claim is that it's why the movie has that name, not why they made the movie.
- amiga386 18d agoOf course, that's why they used the generic word "frozen" with a lot of meanings, as opposed to the specific word "cryogenic" that people would actually search for.
- actionfromafar 19d agoI remember telling people about it back then and it sounded crazy even to me. Yet..
