Garbage Trucks Now Have AI Cameras to Score Your House and Clock Code Violations
- JohnFen 18d agoSounds like a great reason to put a fence around your property. This nonsense is getting insane.
- motbus3 18d agoSounds a good reason to go after your representatives to fix it right now!
- JohnFen 18d agoYes, that as well. It's best to have a multilayered approach to this.

- kotaKat 18d agoDifficulty: your property insurance company is just flying drones and paying for HQ satellite photos anyways to hit you up from that angle, too. https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/iteam-insurance-company-homes-massachustts-topsfield/ https://www.cbsnews.com/boston/news/iteam-insurance-company-... With how police helicopters now have all that whiz-bang tech to overlay addresses and streets on the images and identify properties from the air, it'll just be a matter of time before code enforcement throws a couple hours on the police heli for some 'inspections', too.
- Ancalagon 18d agotime to put a ramada over my entire property
- skyberrys 18d agoFences are not allowed by the HOA!
- JohnFen 17d agoNo problem. I wouldn't own property that was under an HOA in the first place.
- 13years 18d agoThe lesson for modern civilization is if it can be used for spying it will be used for spying. The entire world is becoming a Panopticon.
- skyberrys 18d agoHOA's are probably racing to hand these companies money for doing this. CA has somewhat defanged the HOA by limiting the ability to fine, but they still allow undefined health and safety fines. What can be done to stop the madness while keeping the perks? It would be good to detect misplaced batteries before trucks catch on fire.
- add-sub-mul-div 18d agoI've never been to Texas but it often sounds like the worst kind of gigantic suburb.
- Ancalagon 18d agoI really do not like this future.
- threecheese 18d agoThey won't need these cameras soon, AI-based home inspection tools are on the rise and insurers are using them in lieu of humans. The fine-print is absolutely dreadful, as you might expect. I was forced to use one in order to renew my home insurance policy. Using a supplied app (from a LexisNexis company), I was required to take video of almost my entire home and property. There was no right of refusal; if I wanted to be insured with $Company, this is what I would do. I have little choice, given my area is losing insurers in droves because of definitely-not-global-climate-change. Because I'm a prick, I made sure one of my bachelor party gags were in each room. Hope somebody got a laugh. Anyway, this is what AI looks like - cost reduction, failure minimization, which is all well and good when there's choice in the market, and those who desire privacy have options.
