I take it this is the one that tosses out Rosetta 2 on macOS?
- bayindirh 12d agoNope, that's macOS 28. > Rosetta is available for any Mac with Apple silicon using macOS 27 or earlier. Starting with macOS 28, the next major macOS release, Rosetta functionality will be available only for certain older, unmaintained games that rely on Intel-based frameworks. - asimovDev 12d agoi wonder if M7 will not have elements in it that help with x86 to ARM on the fly translation that M1 had now that macOS 27 and beyond is ARM only with no Rosetta
- bayindirh 12d agoI bet it will, because cross-platform virtualization and containerization is a boon for Apple. Also, Rosetta will stay for older programs (esp. games) and some Intel specific frameworks per Apple's docs. I bet with all the transistor count increase, that circuitry is a blip.
- asimovDev 12d agooh right, forgot about virtualization. Apple probably still need those customers that spend half of their day in Parallels Desktop
- bayindirh 12d agoAlso, being able to run x86 Linux binaries is important for developers: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/virtualization/running-intel-binaries-in-linux-vms https://developer.apple.com/documentation/virtualization/run...
- pppnfnnqmrmntn 11d agoApple can’t wait to ditch rosetta2, and dump all the development work on fex for supporting old legacy x86 software.
- andykellr 12d agoThe warning dialog I received the other day while running macOS 27 Beta said that it will be removed in macOS 28.
