OpenAI should just apologize for having been too greedy. That’s it, as simple as it gets. The fact that it never will is the biggest red flag.

- pfdietz 21d agoOpenAI didn't do anything wrong. Why should they apologize?
- moktonar 21d agoThey took a lifetime of research effort, threw millions of dollars of compute at it and claimed their AI solved a MPP, and they did all this just to be the first to claim the prize. Once you knew the direction, given the new insights on the subject, with all that compute you could probably have just bruteforced your way to a solution, and thousands of agents are not the same thing as “our model came out with a solution on its own”. This is pure greediness, and require at least some apologies to the involved researchers and to the whole community for showing such bad ethics and behaviour
- pfdietz 20d agoI looked through your words and didn't see anything they should be ashamed of. It seems like you're trying to construct from mental vapor some justification for your prejudice.
- moktonar 20d agoRuining a lifetime worth of research effort, passing bruteforce as achievement, thus lying, just to appear first in position, is something to be ashamed of IMO.
- pfdietz 20d agoResearchers don't have any obligation to not ruin the work of others. Research is a competitive arena, not kindergarten. Disparagement of the effort as "brute force" is just argument by insult. What matters is the result obtained. You don't like how they obtained it? Cry me a river.
- moktonar 19d agoEthics matter a lot, you can do whatever you want and be considered a very bad human being as a result. The result matters, but it also matters the discrepancy between what you do and what you claim you do. Bruteforce != ai did it. And that’s fact, no matter how much river you cry me
