Off topic, but gore should be treated the same way legally
- NDlurker 23d agoI get downvoted whenever I bring this up but nobody has a good argument on why it should remain legal.
- ZpJuUuNaQ5 23d agoAnybody has a good argument why it should be illegal?
- throwaway85825 23d agoArguably the average person needs to be exposed to more gore lest they become dangerously detached from the real world. People who live in sanitized bubbles end up creating systems that kill far more people because they cannot see the results of their actions. China censors all violent crime, it's basically illegal to report on. How do you think that's working out?
- singleshot_ 23d agoWell, you probably haven’t asked anyone who knows. The government doesn’t have a compelling interest. Banning it wouldn’t be narrowly targeted.
- ticulatedspline 23d agoCan you provide a compelling argument for why it should be illegal?
- UltraSane 23d agoWhy? What about surgical videos?
- ShinyLeftPad 23d agoWhat about them?
- UltraSane 23d agoThey are very gory.
- ShinyLeftPad 23d agoExactly.
- duxup 23d agoI remember in the old days of the discovery channel or maybe it was the learning channel they had surgery videos. Very interesting, very gory.
- ZpJuUuNaQ5 23d agoBecause? Death is an inevitable part of life. If anything, it reminds you appreciate you feeble existence a little more.
- NDlurker 23d agoRape is a very common crime. Doesn't mean it's ok to film and share it. So why is it ok to share murder videos?
- mplanchard 23d agoIm curious, why? The argument against CSAM is easy: the creation of the content is clearly harmful to the victims, its viewing and distribution furthers that harm, and its availability has the potential to increase demand. How do we get to a similar place for gore?
- mplanchard 23d agoThis thread is so weird. Several people asking why gore should be as illegal as child porn, but with no followup from anyone so far with reasons. I am not trying to be sarcastic in asking why. I am legitimately curious.
- NDlurker 23d agoI'm at work and also don't like typing on my phone. I replied with my reasoning now
- NDlurker 23d agoThe argument is that the child is revictimized with each viewing. Wouldn't it be the same for a murder victim? The argument is that distributing child sex abuse material creates a demand for more of it. Wouldn't it be the same for murder videos? There was a series of photos going around when I was a kid. A girl who died in a car accident. Horrible, gruesome, nightmare inducing photos of the aftermath were shared. The family was victimized by those photos being shared. We live in a time where vore, nude photos shared without the subject's permission, and AI nudification software are all illegal. Why should it be legal to share photos and videos of violent crimes and accidents? How is that any different?
- wyrdcurt 23d agoWhat precisely is your definition of gore? Could you define it in a way that makes it illegal to share images of murders and car crashes as entertainment, without criminalizing, say, journalists documenting a war?
