- jryle70 20d agoDo you know the specific of which countries buying how much electricity from this plant, or just your wildly guess?
- agilob 20d agoQuick Duck search away: this power plant exports energy to Estonia where energy production is 4x less CO2 efficient. Literally exporting energy right now https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/live/fifteen_minutes https://app.electricitymaps.com/map/live/fifteen_minutes
- jryle70 20d agoThe question is how much they buy. It may not be enough to keep the plant running. Google will only buy up to 50% of what the plant can produce, but the deal allows the plant to operate beyond 2030 according to the operator. Side note: Really nice dashboard.
- jurgenburgen 19d ago> the deal allows the plant to operate beyond 2030 according to the operator. That’s just PR spin. There is no way it would have shut down in 4 years, there has literally been no talk about doing so and all the political parties are okay with nuclear power as a means to combat co2.
- cloudie78 20d agoI think that’s a good thing, they could also build a nuclear reactor or two or three. Wouldn’t hurt.
- adamors 20d agoA nuclear reactor is takes years and years to build, this is again Europe selling it's sovereignty to big tech for some short term cash.
- cloudie78 20d agoAh sorry, yes. Let’s not fix that problem, get better at doing the thing that Europe was quite capable of doing (see France, Germany before they decided to let the green ideological extremists less the energy strategy) standardise a design and begin solving the energy problem. Funny you should mention sovereignty, something a country enjoys when it has a source of energy of its own, especially when we can mine our own uranium right on the continent. Alas, we chose not to. Instead we listen to the green imbeciles and now we’re buying our uranium and hydrocarbons from abroad.
- scottyah 20d agoSo this is the actual long-term bet, where there's incentive to start building more power infrastructure? You'd prefer Finland gets the medium-term results where they don't find a way to finance more nuclear then have to buy gas from Russia like Germany?
- AngryData 20d agoIts not like building massive amounts of data centers is a one and done in just a year or two either though.
