Only because some buy Apple instead of supporting Linux OEMs.
- asimovDev 1mo agothis opens up the options on the used market though. once people start dumping their early Mx Macs, they will turn into wonderful Linux machines instead of becoming landfill or a collector's item that will sit in a display case / shelf
- WillAdams 1mo agoThat is an interesting argument --- maybe there could be a tax credit for publishing specifications/keys when a product is end-of-lifed and support is cut off? Or, maybe a company could be required to pay for disposal if that is not done?
- nextlevelwizard 1mo agoIt turns out people want actually good machines. I have the cheapest M1 Air and it still rocks and isn't power hungry. When Apple stops supporting it I will gladly switch to Asahi if capable.
- pjmlp 1mo agoSo much that they rather use another UNIX and then keep complaining it isn't GNU/Linux, go figure.
- nextlevelwizard 1mo agoYeah... most users do not do that. I would prefer using MacOS forever, but I am under no illusion that it will keep getting supported. But I also use Linux daily so I am not bothered anyway. Also just please stop fighting against imaginary people.
- walthamstow 1mo agoWhen Linux OEMs come out with hardware as good or nearly as good as Apple, people will buy it.
- pjmlp 1mo agoThen don't complain about giving money to Apple for macOS.
