There’s a lot of focus on negatives in comments. I will say ssris probably saved my life and I have had zero side effects to date. It’s easy to say “just suck it up and power through it”. That advice can kill people
- orangedog 1mo agoThis topic always draws out the contrarians. It's like vaccine discussion.
- elevation 1mo agoPerhaps because various SSRI users have contrary outcomes?
- orangedog 1mo agoSure. I always find the more extremist responses (you can find some towards the bottom) confusing because the only side effect I've ever been aware of is not wanting to die. I just think there's a lot of fud around this and I have friends who have never taken them that were very ready to jump in on the discussion about how they destroy lives.
- 15feetOfclay 1mo agoI'm observing ~3 categories of SSRI negativity in this comment section: 1. Those who have directly experienced negative outcomes from SSRIs or observed negative outcomes in people they care about 2. Those who feel that the medical establishment should more loudly caution about the side effects of SSRIs 3. Those making something tantamount to claims that depression is a natural phenomenon which has been collectively constructed as a mental illness For (1) and (2) I have only compassion and modest disagreement. For (3), I have nothing but disdain.
