>A/I’s cadre of radical hackers and tech developers provide a full spectrum of services – including encrypted chats and email, web hosting, secure video conferencing and streaming, anonymity shields, and a suite of other technological tools [...] while remaining anonymous, untraceable, and beyond the reach of the law.
ignoring the political leanings, this type of rhetoric will certainly be used to further the campaign against encryption, bolster the case for id verification requirements, etc. it paints the use of everyday normal tools: email, web hosting, etc. as inherently bad if they are private.
- Saline9515 2mo agoA/I mails weren't e2e encrypted.
- john_strinlai 2mo agonot sure if that's relevant. the announcement specifically calls out "encrypted chats and email" and implies that it's a bad thing because it is private

- john_strinlai 2mo agoi know you have strong feelings about this, because you have over 10 comments on this submission, but i'm talking about the general rhetoric of the message (as i quoted), not specific to a/i or any left/right politics. the general language used in this announcement is undoubtedly anti-encryption and anti-privacy. it just so happens that this time the rhetorical device is terrorism instead of protecting children.

- bluealienpie 2mo agoEliminating all rights in the name that one person may be bad seems like a slippery slope especially one filled with anecdotes instead of sources.

- jst1fthsdys 2mo agoSo, you must support AWS and MS getting sanctioned for supporting the IDF, which has committed many more acts of terror and far worse forms of it. Right?
- Saline9515 2mo agoYes. Especially if the collaboration was done on purpose, not just as a neutral provider (A/I is not one).
- jst1fthsdys 2mo agoWell, they never will be. So that reveals the real intention behind this action, like someone else said: elimination of human rights and political persecution. This has nothing to do with terrorism, since the people doing it are happy to be inflicting terror globally.
- ocodo 2mo agoCareful now, YC will get added to the terror watch list for being... "statistically lacking in support for dear leader and his current executive actions/~~corruption~~ interests, (subject to change with the wind)"
- pbhjpbhj 2mo agoThat's probably the point of it? "We're murdering people and they have the audacity to organise against us"!
- neoncontrails 2mo agoAnd it will have the effect of making these tools more popular, as it boldly proclaims how effective they are against even nation-state–level threats.
- pseudohadamard 2mo ago> it boldly proclaims how effective they are against even nation-state–level threats it boldly proclaims how effective they are against even rogue nation-state–level threats. There, FTFY.
- yread 2mo agoit almost reads like an advertisement! Secure video conferencing!
