- behole 2mo agoThe fuck? Is that on your list just below Mein Kampf?
- tomhow 2mo agoWe've banned this account for evidently being a single-topic account posting almost exclusively inflammatory comments about that topic. This is not what HN is for and destroys what it's for. We welcome thoughtful, curious discussion about even the most challenging of topics, but this is clearly no such thing.
- MarkusQ 2mo agoThis is a weird mix. Some good, some meh, and others awful. "Lord of The Flies", for example, is misanthropic trash that has done more harm than most people seem to realize. It grossly misrepresents what happens when small groups of people fall out of touch with civilization, portraying a rapid descent into savagery when in fact, what we see when this happens in the real world is almost always resourcefulness, compassion and nobility. Sure, I suppose, this book will change the way you look at the world but unless you know enough going in to reject its premise it will make you less happy, less civil, and wrong.
- fduran 2mo agoyep, the "Lord of The Flies" scenario happened in real life and the kids just collaborated and survived fine https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/may/09/the-real-lord-of-the-flies-what-happened-when-six-boys-were-shipwrecked-for-15-months https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/may/09/the-real-lord-...
- jplusequalt 2mo ago>Ayn Rand Objectivism is a fucking stupid philosophy, and Ayn Rand died living off the welfare system she so vehemently despised.
