These glasses are really great to use. The camera is pretty fundamental functionality because you can use it to tell you things about the world around you. At the Vancouver Aquarium we asked about some fish we saw and stuff. I was quite surprised at the speed of the multi-modal model. It recognized the fish type, and then gave us some facts about it. Fantastic stuff, honestly.
It's also marvelous for taking videos of your children playing at the park. Here's my daughter at Port Moody https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcLAByw6ZYc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcLAByw6ZYc
Very ergonomic and you get your hands free to catch them if something is about to happen. In the end, we didn't end up using them that much because the whole charging thing makes it kind of annoying, but that's about the only reason. I can't imagine I'd use it in a context where I wouldn't wear a GoPro, but it's a cool form factor.
- codazoda 2mo agoI agree, but unfortunately, they don't have great quality or support. First, I've had these for about 2-years. I purchased them to capture candid pictures and video's on a cruise and they were fantastic for that purpose but I've bought two pairs in two years and won't buy them again. When you email Ray Bans for support they send you a wall of text mentioning everything their warranty doesn't cover. It was enough to discourage me from continuing to get a case replacement 2-weeks after my purchase and I just bought a third-party adapter instead. I expected more from the brand. I won't buy Ray Bans (Meta or otherwise) again because of the hostility in that one email. My first pair died after 1-year (I gave them away after 6-months and they only lasted the new owner another 6-months). My second pair died after just over a year. I'd love to have a good pair of camera/audio glasses. The audio is one of the best parts. But these Meta glasses aren't it for me anymore.
- arjie 2mo agoThe audio is actually remarkable. My wife could hear the whole description while I was standing next to her and heard nothing. There are these bone-conduction headsets that also do this stuff and it seems nothing short of magic. Sad to hear these ones didn't last. Who knows if they'll work if we ever take them out of the case.
- bjacobel 2mo agoHow do the glasses distinguish between taking videos of your children playing at the park, and taking videos of other peoples' children playing at the park?
- therealdrag0 2mo agoThey don’t, just like any other camera.
- arjie 2mo agoUsing the same technology that involves a pram distinguishing taking my kids home vs. other kids home. Ancient but reliable.
- tuesdaynight 2mo agoI'm sorry, but I was taken aback when I clicked on the link and it was met with a real vídeo of a child. I was sure that it would be a Rick Rolling link or something. Aren't you afraid of exposing your daughter to a bunch of anonymous people on the internet? I understand that you like the product, but not even Mark Zuckerberg uses his kids for marketing
- arjie 2mo agoI do not believe that children are to be hidden away from the world. As a family, we take perhaps more risks than most in pursuit of the normalcy of children in the public sphere. e.g. she is also here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/07/16/orchid-polygenic-screening-embryos-fertility/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/07/16/orchid-... and here: https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Astra_Meridian https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Astra_Meridian
- tuesdaynight 2mo agoI don't disagree with your point, but don't you think that the internet is a different thing? I mean, there's a reason for parents avoiding public pictures of their babies on Instagram. Specially nowadays, with AIs like Grok and such. You probably thought about that risk too, so I'm asking from a curiousity perspective
- arjie 2mo agoThe Internet is real life, one way or the other. I think there is a lot of anti-family messaging in the world, and I think a lot of people end up not interacting with children as a consequence of us taking families outside of what is now one large public sphere. Our family is public in a few ways: * Our pregnancy log https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Pregnancy https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Pregnancy * Our IVF process https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/IVF https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/IVF * My genome https://viz.roshangeorge.dev/roshan-genvue/ https://viz.roshangeorge.dev/roshan-genvue/ These are all, to us, normal aspects of life and there is a grand taboo around many of these normal things. I want to shift the Overton window back to normalcy. Yes, there are risks, but the alternative is to play along with the taboo-ification of normalcy and I don't want to be part of that. For instance, most online commenters talk about how there's no sense of community and this and that. Well, I have this. Many people have this: https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Blog/2025-10-09/Community https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/Blog/2025-10-09/Community It's normal. But all the people who don't are on the Internet talking about it and propagating the kind of behaviour that makes it prevalent. I want to show them there's another way out.
