- rayiner 2mo agoWhy would you accuse me of making it up? E.g., https://www.evictpro.us/blog/how-long-does-eviction-take-in-maryland https://www.evictpro.us/blog/how-long-does-eviction-take-in-.... This says that in Maryland, a typical timeline for a contested eviction is 90-150 days. Why do people always fight with a fabricated strawman of what the situation is like for poor people? Some hypothetical world where unemployment insurance, Medicaid, renter protections, etc., don't exist?
- freejazz 2mo ago>What experience do you have with the eviction process? My family has owned brownstones in new york my entire life and their experiences are quite different than yours. >Why would you accuse me of making it up? Besides the fact that you're a well known troll here? It's a shockingly convenient argument devoid of any actual fact. >This information is publicly available. E.g., https://www.evictpro.us/blog/how-long-does-eviction-take-in- https://www.evictpro.us/blog/how-long-does-eviction-take-in-.... This says that in Maryland, a typical timeline for a contested eviction is 90-150 days. Your own link says half of that... 45-75 days "typical timeline - notice to physical eviction". So yeah, that's why I think you're a liar. Because I've read more than enough of your posts here and I'm also capable of using common sense to determine that shit stinks. Your article also makes it pretty clear that the difference between it moving quickly or not is mostly dependent upon the landlord. "Worst case is unusual. Most landlords will never see this case; firm portfolio managers will see it 1-2 times a year." So again, total BS from you. Will you substantively respond to this post? Let's see! I doubt it.
- rayiner 2mo ago> My family has owned brownstones in new york my entire life and their experiences are quite different than yours. So because you have an anecdote, I must be lying? > Your own link says half of that... 45-75 days "typical timeline - notice to physical eviction". My story was about landlord-tenant mediation. Do you think those involve straightforward, "best case" proceedings? The assertion above was that "many" people are "one missed paycheck away from homelessness." If someone's alternative is homelessness, then the eviction proceeding won't be a straightforward, uncontested proceeding. And the law gives tenants many opportunities to drag out proceedings. > Your article also makes it pretty clear that the difference between it moving quickly or not is mostly dependent upon the landlord. "Worst case is unusual. Most landlords will never see this case; firm portfolio managers will see it 1-2 times a year." What about that sentence shows that case length is "mostly dependent upon the landlord?" Walk me through it?
- freejazz 2mo ago>So because you have an anecdote, I must be lying? It's called common sense. You asked what my experience is. I know you're lying because you don't pass the sniff test and you're a well known troll here. >My story was about landlord-tenant mediation. Doesn't really matter, your own link provides the average. You citing to what your own link describes as scenarios that will not happen to any land lord just show how dishonest you are in your own framing. >What about that sentence shows that case length is "mostly dependent upon the landlord?" Walk me through it? Maybe read your link... the "What Speeds the Timeline Up" section up should help

- rayiner 2mo ago> It's called common sense. Is it common sense, or your preconceptions? > Doesn't really matter, your own link provides the average. The “average” eviction doesn’t result in homelessness, so why are you focusing on that? You have to actually follow the conversation. We’re not talking about how long eviction proceedings take. We’re talking about the assertion that people are one missed paycheck away from “homelessness.” In that context, you need to look at how long eviction takes for people who are otherwise facing homelessness.

- foco_tubi 2mo agoThanks for the heads up. HN really needs a blocklist.
- TimorousBestie 2mo agoBack in the day there were some browser extensions for doing it locally, but I’m not seeing any modern efforts. Alas.
