Shopify seems to have a fascist problem.
- sph 2mo agoWords have a well-defined meaning. Fascism, as established by Benito Mussolini, has nothing to do with oligarchy or plutarchy.
- duped 2mo agoI'm referring to how both Lütke and DHH, a Shopify board member, have fascist politics. The word does have meaning. But underlying that meaning is a philosophy that there is an in group that should have power and many out groups from which power should be stripped. There is a long history of industrial leaders supporting fascist ideology.
- throw1234567891 2mo agoYeah, but please google first on what Mussolini preached. State-owned corporazioni are nothing like privately operated businesses of today. Don’t hang on the word. The correct word you are looking for is plutocrat, indeed.
- duped 2mo agoThe word I wanted to reach for was Nazi but I toned it down

- duped 2mo agoYou should understand language before debating vocabulary. I am quite well read on political philosophy and history, and I will continue to call out fascists when I see people talking like fascists. Rhetorically, what you're doing is called the "No True Scotsman" fallacy. I personally don't like calling out things like this when I see them because it's not a logical fallacy as much as bad rhetoric, but in this case I think it's warranted.

- throw1234567891 2mo agoWhatever you’re reaching for, you’re reaching for a wrong thing. Go back to school, crème de la crème of the society my ass.
- rjrjrjrj 2mo agoShopify's former COO Kaz Nejatian and his wife Candice Malcolm are behind True North and Juno News, sketchy far right media outlets.
- throw1234567891 2mo agoNo idea why people downvote you when you’re right.
- sph 2mo agoOnly American-style political discourse is accepted on the Internet, where either you're with us or you're against us.
- marcosdumay 2mo agoFascism, as established by Mussolini is very deeply related to plutarchy.
- sph 2mo agoPlease produce your evidence that Mussolini's ascent or style of government was a "society ruled or controlled by people of great wealth", as defined by Wikipedia. Fascist political philosophy is about racial purity, militarism, autarky, and suppression of dissent through political violence. In fact, one of their methods of enacting such worldview was by appropriating the wealth of rich people to advance their own purposes. - marcosdumay 2mo agoIf you read your link, you will discover it's not focused at Mussolini's fascism at all, but still talks about the merge of the government and corporations... Because it's a very important feature of that regime. Maybe try it next time.
- Redoubts 2mo ago> the merge of the government and corporations This is not plutarchy, the direction of control is going the other way.
- marcosdumay 2mo agoThe other way being corporate managers joining the party to gain market power? "Corruption, but the other way around" doesn't exist.
- Der_Einzige 2mo agoIt sure as shit has to do with corporatism!
