WE ALREADY HAVE DRIVERS LICENSES. Just like when I was living in NZ we had the HANZ 18+ card, they can do similar in UK. In fact a provisional drivers license is easy to apply for and the system is already set up to take applications, make the cards etc.
British citizens seem perfectly fine with government wasting money tho. Doesn't matter which political party either, they're all inept cocks.
- ksec 3mo agoNot everyone has a driving licenses. But the UK has a PASS scheme [1] which frankly speaking isn't very widely used or enforced. But yes, if they were to implement it, it is highly likely to be some private contractor taking insane amount of money for something that barely works. I am not exactly against the idea, it works in some counties, but I fail to see how it will work in the UK. [1] https://www.pass-scheme.org.uk https://www.pass-scheme.org.uk
- fennecbutt 3mo agoThat wasn't my point at all. My point was, there are the application/validation systems and manufacturing already set up for driver's licenses. Anybody can apply for a provisional driver's license. That provisional driver's license is an acceptable form of photo id that shows your age, address etc already. So there is no need for an alternative/new system. If they want a "id" version of the provisional driver's license in terms of style/what gets printed then it's an easy/small modification. Sure not everyone has a driver's license, but anybody can apply for one. If you don't know what a provisional driver's license is, then please look it up...
- ksec 3mo agoI somehow completely missed out the part about provisional drivers license when I first read it. I now understand what you meant. But last part of my reply was more specially on Digital ID. Which current system does not help or hasn't been implemented.
- marysol5 3mo ago> but anybody can apply for one. Categorically false
- marysol5 3mo agoDigital ID, isn't just about "identification" in a pub, it's about interconnecting departments. Which as they stand just barely talk to each other. Not everybody can get a driving license. A provisional isn't "easy" in the slightest, especially for a lot of the population.
