It makes 100% sense for a Mexican commute, or in other parts of South America.
I live in Uruguay and one of the best selling cars here is pretty similar, a friend has it and it's great for the daily commute:

The best sellers are BYD models, which are a bit larger but still tiny by US standards.

EVs have displaced ICE cars in Uruguay, and we usually are ahead of the trends, so I expect that to be the case in Europe and other places in coming years.
- SpicyLemonZest 3mo agoBoth of these other cars are capable of driving at highway speeds, even if only barely in the Pony's case. The Olinia Uno is limited to 50km/h, and my understanding (I've had trouble finding clear details, although my Spanish isn't great) is that it's also going to lack safety features that a faster car would be required to have.
