Tony Gilroy Accepts Award for Andor: "Fuck the Empire "
- jay_kyburz 5mo agoI'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, but I'm so happy to hear Tony Gilroy drawing direct parallels to the Empire and the current US administration. also this link. https://kottke.org/26/02/andor-creator-tony-gilroy-is-free-to-speak-about-fascism-now https://kottke.org/26/02/andor-creator-tony-gilroy-is-free-t...
- skissane 5mo ago> I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars Andor is honestly a lot better than most of Star Wars. Heroes who are flawed and morally complicated; imperials who seem more like real human beings than cartoon villains.
- davidwritesbugs 5mo agoI watch it and think of the “Are we the bad guys?” meme: lots of people advancing their careers in the Empire & shrugging at their own evil deeds mentally saying “ ok, but what can I do?”
- nchmy 5mo agoBetter than most of star wars? It's incomparably better than anything else star wars has ever done. It's one of the best series I've ever watched. Absolute privilege to be able to see it.
- beart 5mo agoAndor is an incredible series that is only incidentally connected to star wars. In particular, the ability to slowly and organically ramp up tension in each of the major arcs is truly special.
- gruntled-worker 5mo agoI like the Andor writing and acting, but the directing has been more hit and miss. Some episodes feel more like reading a chapter from a book than watching a TV show. I wish they grabbed Alex Garcia Lopez, whose two Acolyte episodes are waaay above the rest.
- jasonvorhe 5mo agoImagine it as a lengthy movie and it works best.
- mindcrash 5mo ago> incidentally connected to star wars I wouldn't call it incidentally. It's actually a very important story. It tells the tale about the early days of the Rebellion and how they sniffed out the construction of the Death Star, eventually leading up (and connected) to the events in Rogue One and A New Hope.
- unmole 5mo agoYou could substitute the Galactic Empire with any generic dictatorship and Andor would still work.
- erelong 5mo ago...and The Empire Strikes Back...
- belval 5mo agoIt's so sad that Disney burned some Star Wars fans so much that they will never give Andor a chance. It is such a work of art.
- minebreaker 5mo agoThat's exactly me. I mean, people told me the exact same things when TROS came out. It was horrible.
- philipallstar 5mo agoIndeed. There's a Star Wars movie out right now - the first for seven years - and quite rightly, no one cares. Only Andor and Rogue one were good since the Disney purchase and the reign of Katherine Kennedy, which is a below-random success rate.
- beAbU 5mo agoWow, you are right. There is a new movie out. I did not know until just now, and now that I know, I don't care. I grew up during the prequel trilogy, I dressed up for the premiere of TFA. What a sad state of affairs :(
- philipallstar 5mo agoIndeed - I was very excited for TFA, and even during a reasonable amount of it. Rey was fine, though a bit boring, but the camaraderie between Finn and Poe was good, when it was allowed onscreen, and Finn in particular would've been such a great character - imagine a real treatment of a Force-sensitive warrior brought up in a fascist regime and the real conflict and change that would be required in them over three movies.
- nchmy 5mo agoThey are correct to not care - it's an absolutely terrible movie, as you'd expect.

- bentobean 5mo agoIs this the Star Wars equivalent of dressing up as characters from The Handmaidens Tale and being overly dramatic?
- taffydavid 5mo agoReally annoying but somebody used AI to transcribe whatever Tony said in his speech and interview, And it's really obvious because it's full of small mistakes "New cycle" instead of news cycle "Catherine reel" instead of Catherine wheel
- fennecbutt 5mo agoMeh, star wars. But I prefer: https://youtu.be/5g9zxduFtSM?si=3YI3hFpa6drL2_8J https://youtu.be/5g9zxduFtSM?si=3YI3hFpa6drL2_8J
