The benchmarks are completely off, and a recent version of Ubuntu with sane config would easily beat Freebsd.
- vsgherzi 5mo agoMy understanding is that the kernels are mostly equal. I’d be pretty surprised if one had a large impact one way or the other. Any differences I’d chalk up to the userspace program running it.
- MBCook 5mo agoDon’t forget there are serious hardware differences. It’s not apples to apples. But that’s ok. The author isn’t claiming FreeBSD is way better than Linux. It’s just a comparison of what he had vs what he has now.

- nolist_policy 5mo agoFrom every benchmark I've seen so far, Linux has always been faster than the BSDs. For example, look at these benchmarks from 2003[1]. The newest benchmarks I could find[2], [3] point in the same direction. - Gud 4mo agoThe comment I replied to pointed out that the benchmarks were old, which I agree with. Both 1 and 2 are old and irrelevant, the 3rd has no clear winner?
