The predecessor that the Sun JavaStation “Krups” is one of my all time favorite computer design https://forums.sgi.sh/index.php?threads/the-sun-javastation-10-krups.335/ https://forums.sgi.sh/index.php?threads/the-sun-javastation-... We used to have these at my workplace and always wanted to get one but they got thrown out and I didn’t manage to save one… And nowadays they are kind of rare to find on used marketplaces. And of course you can still set them up today https://youtu.be/Fb0w5OT1U58 https://youtu.be/Fb0w5OT1U58

Thanks for sharing, that brings back good memories. Here is another one, from the first JavaStation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxV_pR1ZsXM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxV_pR1ZsXM Sun was my favourite UNIX vendor, oh well.

Wow that's... hideous. I assume they didn't mean it was their favourite design aesthetically!

Taste is subjective after all. I'd say it has a certain late 90s charm to it.

Indeed it is subjective, I think the "Krups" was beautiful.

There was plenty of solid design in the 90s. Look at the stuff Sony put out. https://walkmancentral.com/products/mz-r55 https://walkmancentral.com/products/mz-r55 Or the Gameboy Colour https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Color#/media/File%3ANintendo-Game-Boy-Color-FL.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Boy_Color#/media/File%3AN... It looks like a router designed by a toddler.

It’s an awesome looking machine even if it’s a bit dated for some people’s tastes. Any way the wind blows, it’s massively preferable to today’s largely soulless designs.

YMMV. I find old computer cases much beautiful than present day ones. Even Apple had "design" a long time ago.

I should buy a SunRay and 3D scan it. They're still around, and These shapes should not be that hard to 3D print (does any filament maker out there color match that beautiful Sun Microsystems purple?), and this would make an amazing case for an SBC. And scaling it up for mini-ITX would be friggin hilarious too.
