- Supermancho 6mo agoInflation is also a factor, in absolute terms. In 2025, interest payments totaled $970 billion, or 3.2% of GDP. The US public debt-to-GDP ratio peaked at 106% in 1946 following WW2. Next year the US will likely match or exceed that, imo.
