Arno's Engram Keyboard Layouts

- eimrine 7mo agoJust a layout of medium shittness, there are hundrends of them over here. There is no a home row conception, there is no aoeui mnemonics and no modifications. But I appreciate the hand alternation as a top priority because this is where the speed begins and more load for pinkies because the hand mobility sags typically from the pinkies.
- 7e 7mo agoFor some people, a layout which spares the pinkies is preferable. The BEAKL layouts, for example, are optimized using a hand model which keeps the pinkies as idle as possible. Sometimes this can make all the difference.
- pyrolistical 7mo agoWhy would the center two cols be used for such low probability symbols. The braces being so far and tucked away make it really bad for c like languages
- GavinMcG 7mo agoMost people who use a keyboard aren’t using it for c like languages.
- pyrolistical 7mo ago? JavaScript is c like and thr most popular in the world
- throwaway27448 7mo agoMost people who use a keyboard aren't using any programming language
- snthpy 7mo agoI dislike the middle columns so I think this is quite a cool idea.
- bjoli 7mo agoThis seems like an insane waste to me. Especially the ones on the lower row. For me it is the strongest position.
- snthpy 7mo agoI looked at the repo but I didn't see anything about the design principles. How does this compare to Colemak-dh on things like inward rolls and SBFs etc ...?
- eimrine 7mo ago> How does this compare to Colemak-dh as shit vs shit
- backscratches 7mo agoColemak is objectively decent !
- eimrine 7mo agoBut not for those who has no qwerty experience.
- backscratches 7mo agoColemak is objectively decent even if you never knew qwerty. Even if you move C V X Z you can only make a layout a tiny bit better than colemak. I don't know why you are on this crusade, its silly. https://mk.bcgsc.ca/carpalx/?keyboard_layouts https://mk.bcgsc.ca/carpalx/?keyboard_layouts
- snthpy 7mo agoBased on what? I specifically called for some objective measures like SBFs ... What's the SOTA these days? I dropped out of the community a 2 to 3 years ago. At the time ISRT seemed to be one of the bests but I haven't heard anything since then.
- dickiedyce 7mo agoSome explanation of the design principles would be welcomed. The workman (https://workmanlayout.org/#introduction https://workmanlayout.org/#introduction ) website is really interesting in this regard, even if you disagree with the end product. [As an aside, the Svaalboard has been my saviour, that and a ludicrous amount of QMK customisation with tap-dance functionality.]
- bschwarz 7mo agoThe Svalboard with just the old default QWERTY based layout was enough to save my hands after having tried pretty much every ergonomic keyboard out there. I'll never get tired of recommending this keyboard!
- eimrine 7mo agoColemak and Workman are weak layouts. I would not recommend them for children who have not developed the ctrl-x/c/v habit yeh, because they will never understand its pros.
