- TheOtherHobbes 8mo agoStrange how often the upper classes need to feel reassured the peasants are even more immoral than they are.
- benj111 8mo agoIt's a reference to the tendency of Muslims to marry cousins. Where I'm guessing it will simultaneously be decided that it would be racist to target them/ good Muslims never watch porn/ carry on ignoring the problem to the point where most people aren't aware. I only know about it because an ex was a medical professional
- amiga386 8mo agoIslam does not tell you to do this. It's the cultural practises of specific kinship networks in the UK, especially from Mirpur. And the practise is also currently on the decline. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Pakistanis#Consanguineous_marriage_and_genetic_risk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Pakistanis#Consanguine... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mirpuris#Endogamy_and_kinship https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mirpuris#Endogamy_and_... The irony is, of course, that this law is being proposed while the NHS has been advised (by a quango, not the government) to stop discouraging cousin-marriage: https://www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/article/first-cousin-marriages-nhs-advice-6c2j6sbmz https://www.thetimes.com/uk/healthcare/article/first-cousin-... -- the NHS is not required to accept this advice, and indeed the links above show that cosanguinity is decreasing, partly because of public health initiatives telling people what the harms are!
- benj111 8mo agoAs I said, a tendency, not an instruction.
- Hizonner 8mo agoBaronet: a sort of lesser baron. Baroness: a female of rank equivalent to a baron. Baronette: what the fuck?
- jimnotgym 8mo agoThank you, that substantially adds to the discussion. It is that in particular that is the WTF, not the idea of hereditary titles themselves, nor their penchant for intermarriage. If only there was a way of correcting people that wasn't so rude.
- JCattheATM 8mo agoThat user has a history of being that rude.
