As far as I understand, this is about banning the use of Anthropic for autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance. And while the idea of building one fully controlled, nationwide AI system may sound tempting, in reality it’s still just a fantasy and wouldn’t be very useful in practice.
- tefkah 7mo agoNo, Anthropic did not want Claude to be used for autonomous weapons and domestic surveillance, in response to which the Department of Defense banned them from every defense use edit: Disregard the above, do I take my car or walk to a car wash 50m away
- ErigmolCt 7mo agoNott really, the dispute is that Anthropic wanted to keep restrictions against domestic mass surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, while the Pentagon reportedly wanted the models available for any "lawful" use
