Kansas invalidates driver's licenses, birth certificates for ~1k transgender
- callistocodes 8mo agoI guess solving actual problems is too difficult.
- superxpro12 8mo agoWhat an incredible waste of resources. But authoritarianism NEEDS an enemy of the people to self-justify its existence. I wonder who's next?
- watwut 8mo agoWomen. The SAVE act will affect them the most. And people behind it already talk about how voting should be per household, by male.
- pavel_lishin 8mo agoAnother source, that I will quote from: https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/kansas-sends-letters-to-trans-people https://www.erininthemorning.com/p/kansas-sends-letters-to-t... > The Legislature, the letter notes, "did not include a grace period for updating credentials," and anyone operating a vehicle without a valid credential "may be subject to additional penalties." > Under Kansas law, driving without a valid license is a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine—though first-time offenders are more likely to face a citation and fine. A conviction, however, triggers an automatic 90-day license suspension. If a person drives during that suspension, they face a charge of driving on a suspended license, which carries a mandatory minimum of five days in jail. And according to this: https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3mfqa4oynxk2p https://bsky.app/profile/esqueer.net/post/3mfqa4oynxk2p > Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license. > They can't even escape this by moving to another state.
- add-sub-mul-div 8mo agoIt's like being mad that women can vote or that blacks can go to white schools, just time shifted. Why spend your life being mad about social progress that's going to happen whether you want it to or not? What's the value proposition? (I mean for the people buying it, not the people selling it.)
- slifin 8mo agoThere are people out there afraid to learn or change and are keen to blame and keep things the same to protect themselves You can listen to their thought process by asking them if they got their way politically for 15 years what would be better about living in their country

- joecot 8mo agoThe value proposition is that the people selling it are telling the buyers that trans and gay people will corrupt their children. Not that it might turn out their children are trans or gay, but that trans and gay people will cause them to be trans or gay. Amp this up with hoaxes like schools having cat litter boxes for children who identify as cats. They're being sold fear, and they're buying it.
- exceptione 8mo agoOne would expect these kinds of things to happen in Afghanistan, but we have to update our priors. Leading figures in the current regime are openly idolatrous about Nazism¹, and for Paleoconservatism² anything will fly. Remember their slogans about "freedom"? They just mock it; but even that isn't original. ______ 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_transgender_people_in_Nazi_Germany#Imprisonment_in_concentration_camps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_transgender_peo... 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoconservatism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleoconservatism

- learingsci 8mo agoIf only they were migrants, this wouldn’t have happened. Vote with your feet people.
- jauntywundrkind 8mo agoSo concerning. Especially as this comes with increasing braying from the usual hounds of hell about voter fraud and insecure elections. Adding a bunch of new voter id requirements then cancelling a bunch of id's is exactly the sort of infernally damned aggression against democracy at large torment we expect from these monsters. Even though so far it's only Elon defrauding elections! https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47103123 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47103123 https://newrepublic.com/post/206857/georgia-voter-fraud-elon-musk https://newrepublic.com/post/206857/georgia-voter-fraud-elon...
