Well I'm happy that Haskell registers at all! At a level similar to ... LabView (oof). The article proper is rather uninteresting, I'm afraid.

- chamomeal 1y agoIt’s grating to see Haskell compared to labview, regardless of context lol
- Joel_Mckay 1y agoHaskell is a fun language... LabView is a kick in the pants... I'd wager it is the installed base keeping LabView on life support. =3
- 7thaccount 1y agoLabview seems like a pain (I haven't used it), but I guess it's super useful for some uses. I recall SpaceX uses it for controlling launches. It comes with models for all manner of hardware.
- Joel_Mckay 1y agoNI has niche instrumentation product lines that have been around for some time. Yet, the modern licensing model jettisoned a lot of their long time proponents. Like many things in life, most problems were non-technical in nature. SpaceX is an interesting company, and it made some unique design choices. =3
- hooskerdu 1y agoI really loved LabView
- Joel_Mckay 1y agoNI rarely made established software better after a company acquisition. Generally, IT and Engineering agreed to deprecate their product lines off critical systems about 2 minutes after the deal went through. =3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpE_xMRiCLE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpE_xMRiCLE
- marcosdumay 1y ago> but I guess it's super useful for some uses It comes with device interfaces (not exactly drivers, but some times it has drivers too).
- zeeqeen 1y agoAll right, I even never heard of Labview programming language, haha..
- a96 1y agoBut labview is what happens when there's a project that needs hardware automation and has lots of budget but no desire to make in-house tools. And the house already used labview the last time that happened.
- Joel_Mckay 1y agoHaskell at least is fun. My favorite Julia also made the list this year... nonzero users means there is hope for fun languages yet. With the new Intel+NVIDIA RTX SoC deal, we can expect Python and C++ to dominate that list in the next few years. =3
