The Covid Vaccine Situation for the Fall Is a Complete Mess
- taylodl 1y agoThere was an article here on HN earlier today, American Millennials Are Dying at an Alarming Rate (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44963675 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44963675), and this article just provides additional reasons for why that is happening.
- gnarlouse 1y agoI keep thinking that the Trump admin’s solution to climate change is “let a major disease and a crippled healthcare system kill tens or hundreds of millions. Fewer mouths = lower farm load, fewer drivers, less energy consumption. Just kill ‘em, we’ll have AGI and bots soon enough.”
- evbogue 1y agoI'm so confused. Isn't this the same administration that launched project warpspeed to develop and spread these vaccines back in 2020?
- giraffe_lady 1y agoThe first trump administration still had a mostly intact bureaucratic apparatus with a cadre of career technocrats in positions of authority and influence. The second is oriented very differently. Also remember that the politicization of masking took a while to spin up, and didn't fuse with and evolve into the current antivax movement until later, when the vaccine was actually in sight. It wasn't a bipartisan wonderland or anything but early covid days was an extremely different political environment from now.
- add-sub-mul-div 1y agoTrump never knew what to do because he was aware the manipulable antivax were in his base but also he thought the vaccine might be released early enough to help win him the election, so he didn't want to come out against it either.

- matthewdgreen 1y agoSummary: it's likely that you'll only be able to obtain a COVID vaccine if you're 65+ or at high risk, and it doesn't matter if you feel differently or want to pay for it in cash. This is pretty terrible.
