China enters the chat.
- CalRobert 1y agoTrue, they won’t pay PhD’s €28,000 a year either.
- seanmcdirmid 1y agoChina is a pretty good place to be a scientists in certain fields. The pay is very competitive.
- CalRobert 1y agoYeah, I think what’s concerning is that it wasn’t obvious I meant 28k is obscenely low.
- v5v3 1y agoThen why are all the Chinese origin AI Devs working in USA?
- i34ubt4q2 1y ago[flagged]
- CalRobert 1y agoBecause you can make insane amounts of money?
- v5v3 1y agoDeepSeek and Qwen would pay as much wouldn't they? With the blessings of the state as AI is strategic
- seanmcdirmid 1y agoYou only see the ones working in the USA and not the ones working in China. The USA still pays better than China, and has more stomach for immigration (for now…Trump is working on making that worse), but when I was working in Beijing a lot of engineers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, were there specifically for the higher pay.
- llm_nerd 1y agoChina has an enormous and rapidly growing AI space. I would argue growing much, much faster than the US space where in a lot of cases the hustle has replaced the engineering (see: OpenAI). No, they aren't all working in the USA, and in many cases those that were are leaving the US and moving back to China.
