Probably depends where you live in the US. For example, I grew up on the southeast US coast and we had basic boater safety as part of drivers ed in high school.

Probably depends where you live in the US. For example, I grew up on the southeast US coast and we had basic boater safety as part of drivers ed in high school. I also had swimming lessons, but they were not part of a school curriculum.
- jasonpeacock 1y agoWhen I grew up in Alaska, because of all the fishing/boating, swimming was both included in elementary PE and a high school graduation requirement. Oddly, swimming is not required curriculum in Hawaii (per a friend) because they assume everyone already knows how to swim - except she couldn’t! She’d only ever been wading at the beaches.
