Rural services should be the first cut as they voted for this, so clearly don’t want them.
- SonOfKyuss 1y agoBut this is also what the folks behind this want. Rural America is easier to radicalize when they aren’t exposed to all that woke empathy crap on Sesame Street or facts-based reporting from NPR. If PBS news hour sounded like Fox News, they wouldn’t have cut their funding
- throwawaysleep 1y agoThey already vote that way, making it irrelevant. The play now is to make sure no young people continue to live in rural communities. Have a bipartisan concensus that rural communities should largely be separated from services.
- SonOfKyuss 1y agoYou sort of touched on it, but yes this isn’t about changing the minds of adults, it’s about keeping the kids in those areas from questioning what they are being told by those around them
- kacesensitive 1y agoMy grandparents think NPR is leftist propaganda and PBS has a "trans agenda" whatever that means. They're too far gone.
- akudha 1y agoThis is depressing. What is "trans agenda" and why do they think it affects them? Do they even know a single trans person in real life, assuming that is what they are scared of? I honestly do not understand any of this at all.
- kacesensitive 1y agoWell they know my wife but not that she's trans lmao they live less than an hour away and we never really see them due to the comments they make. Just not worth putting her through that.

- jeffbee 1y agoPBS News Hour has, perversely, spent the last five years incinerating its credibility among thinking people in an attempt to curry favor with their enemies. This apparently did not work.

- readthenotes1 1y agoFact based reporting, like the Hunter Biden laptop story isn't a story, or Pres Biden is fully mentally competent, or firing a coworker for calling out a progressive bias in the newsroom? We can do with less of that, I think.
- orwin 1y agoI mean, from outside the US, the only thing I've learned from the hunter laptop leak is that he is a coke user, he fuck prostitutes and have a porn-sized penis, which frankly, is the only truly surprising thing and also knowledge I can do without. So unless 4chan became extremely less pro-trump than I remember, I do think it isn't a story.
- readthenotes1 1y agoThere are also records of him talking with and about his dad with his business partners. I didn't know about the pornstar angle, but I guess that explains how he could be doing his sister-in-law and another woman at the same time
- orwin 1y agoWhich is like, not surprising at all? Heirs are often dumb shitters who use their parents name to try to succeed because they can't really do anything themselves. Man, if you're ahead of 4chan on any kind of semi-celebrities gossip, semi-political topic, you have to ask yourself questions. I'm not taking 4chan as a source of truth, at all, but 4chan self-claimed 'degens' are often on top of the subject they find, and you are ahead of them here. On a story from 3 years ago.
- kacesensitive 1y agoYeah, it’s grim irony. A lot of rural communities consistently vote for politicians who campaign on dismantling these very programs (public broadcasting, Medicaid, rural hospital funding, even USPS). Then act surprised when the services vanish.
- guywithahat 1y agoI don't think they ever really did. I always understood it as a way to push left-wing politics on rural areas.
- nolok 1y agoYou equate rural news station to left wing politics ? Or you equal PBS/NPR with left wing politics ? In either case I find that humorous at best, but I do wonder
- votepaunchy 1y agoSo listen to NPR’s Senior Editor with 25 years company experience and wonder no more: https://www.thefp.com/p/npr-editor-how-npr-lost-americas-trust https://www.thefp.com/p/npr-editor-how-npr-lost-americas-tru...
- guywithahat 1y agoHe doesn't want evidence, he wants to be mad
- nolok 1y agoI really don't, I'm not even american, you left wing is still pretty right wing to us This attitude is exactly what I'm talking about, there is a complete inability to have discourse that developped, you feel the need to put people in box and judge them without even listening to what they're saying it's really not healthy
- guywithahat 1y agoYou called my original point "humorous at best"; that's not the discourse of someone who listens to what other people say. The article the other poster linked is a great piece, I would recommend reading it if you have any interest in the topic.

- paulwilsondev 1y agoAs a person that lives in subrubia and has property in the sticks, I can assure you that NPR or PBS losing funding is no loss. I have a weather radio specifically for NOAA alerts. I could not care less about NPR and PBS losing any funding.
